The history of the Text Book Swap Meet. The Text Book Swap meet began when members of SCOOP and the Sociology Club of Mt. San Antonio College got together to discuss a way to raise money for their clubs. Eventually one member proposed an idea that they could hold an event on campus where students could buy and sell books to each other. While only an idea at first, the President of SCOOP, Mike Acosta took the liberty to make it happen. He set up the times, dates, rooms, location and wrote a 25 page report on how the Text Book Swap Meet should be ran. He designed and posted all the fliers. He carefully organized every detail of the event, (he made this site and is writing some nice things about himself because, well, wait. He is writing this....) However, he ran into some trouble. When the event was in the final stages of planning he formally introduced his event to the Sac Book Rac, to be courteous, and was told that he may have a problem with the Board of Equalization. (The original idea for the textbookswapmeet was to physically hold the books and physically sell them for other students). Because he was selling tangible items, he would have to tax students. Eventually with the help of Daryl Foster, the Director of the Student Life Center, the present way of selling information came to be. On January 10th the Text Book Swap Meet began and was successful for the rest of the week. By the weeks end, he had made enough to keep his club, SCOOP, in good funds for the rest of the semester. But why stop there? The Text Book Swap Meet should be an ongoing event, and not for just for a few days. With the help of a good friend; Mike and Leo set out to make this site. Mike wrote and designed the site, while Leo did all the complicated scripting that enables users to buy and sell their books online. So if you're reading this, do us all a big favor and let your friends know! The more people who come, the bigger our selection, the more books are sold, hence: happiness goes all around for everyone participating in the Text Book Swap Meet!
